Position summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Deputy Director will be responsible for leading a global youth program portfolio. Building on the last five years of youth innovation programming, you will drive sub-strategy design and execution and lead the tactical delivery of a new era of innovative youth programs investing in female economic empowerment, social entrepreneurship, social impact and climate action.
The Senior Deputy Director will manage designated project staff teams, oversee knowledge, learning & evaluation, drive research and development and establish and maintain a positive, collaborative and productive relationships with staff, funding and project partners. The Senior Deputy Director plays is pivotal in the YCI leadership team, with the ultimate goal to increase the creativity, quality, efficiency and long-term impact of our programs and strategic investments.
Responsibilities will include:
- Project Execution: Provide leadership and management to dynamic project portfolio including the management of project teams; provide strategic and tactical support to meet goals and targets; oversee learning, monitoring & evaluation and continuous research and development; oversee coordination with technical partners and subcontractors; drive talent acquisition (staff teams and volunteer teams); develop, monitor and execute annual work plans; ensure funder and internal compliance; ensure financial management as it relates to program performance.
- Strategic Management and Technical Support: Provide strategic management and technical support to the Youth Challenge International global program portfolio; lead the design and implementation of special projects including the delivery of key technical components within specified projects, lead continuous research, planning and development; lead key components of business and fund development, perform other duties as requested by Executive Director.
Skills and experience:
You have 10+ years of progressively responsible management and leadership experience; you are known as an entrepreneurial leader; you have been fortunate to gain significant global experience and understand what is takes to be a successful partner in sub-Saharan Africa; you are passionate about investing in women and youth livelihoods with a track record in innovation; you can demonstrate how you have built effective teams, leadership capacity and partnerships; you understand the importance of culture and how it contributes to success or failure; you celebrate both failure and success; you are an effective communicator with bilingual capacity; you are a permanent resident or a Citizen of Canada.
