ClimateFutures Lab 

Leveraging YCI’s experience from the Innovate My Future climate action program, Climate Futures Lab will enhance efforts towards climate mitigation, adaptation and resilience by engaging youth in Calgary and Halifax. Climate Action Catalysts will be recruited to design and lead climate action projects in collaboration with their local municipalities. In teams, they will develop projects through a dynamic Human Centered Design process that meets community climate needs. This process will be delivered through a series of Learning and Action Labs, resulting in creative and engaging opportunities that address the current climate crisis.  

Position Summary

Reporting to YCI’s Executive Director, the Program Manager, Climate Futures Lab will be responsible for providing program management to YCI’s Climate Futures Lab program, as well as contribute to YCI’s Climate and Youth strategy. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator with experience working in community-level projects including climate activation, youth programming and advocacy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Project Management and Administration: Project management of the Climate Futures Lab Program, including remote supervision of two coordinator staff, project cycle implementation, internal and external reporting, overseeing dynamic partnerships and consultant relationships for climate action; Support the monitoring and evaluation of climate programs through survey dissemination, data collection, analysis, and reporting; Budget management for efficient use of project resources; Coordination with key members from the Toronto and partner teams towards the best possible project results. 
  • Curriculum Facilitation: Lead the execution of training and events for youth climate action programs which includes development of program materials, leading engaging events and learning opportunities to support youth in achieving project goals. Collaborate and lead climate action team and event support staff to deliver events and learning opportunities. 
  • Youth Mobilization and Engagement: Lead the mobilization and engagement strategy of youth participants, including leading the approach to recruitment, selection, and retention of youth participants; Lead the development of outreach and communications plans, in collaboration the communications team and climate action team.
  • Youth Coaching and Mentorship: Lead the design and implementation of coaching and mentorship frameworks, to support youth participants to execute project activities and achieve outcomes through local climate action; Lead the organization and facilitation of Learning and Action Labs. 
  • Support to Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives: Provide support to special projects and strategic initiatives in coordination with the Executive Director; perform other duties as requested by the Executive Director  

Skills and Experience

  • You are a self-starter with 5+ years of experience in project leadership, including budget management
  • You are passionate and eager to contribute to dynamic youth programming that is catalyzing local climate action
  • You have exceptional spoken and written communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire youth volunteers in both virtual and in-person settings
  • You can see the big picture and contribute to YCI’s Climate and Youth strategy while keeping a close eye on detail
  • You are a practiced facilitator and a reliable and entrepreneurial self-starter with a hands-on approach, proactively moving work forward, managing your time effectively, and can be counted on to follow-through
  • You can support meetings/events outside of regular working hours on evenings and weekends as needed
  • You have experience working with youth and/or volunteers from diverse backgrounds
