Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director, Programs will be responsible for leading a global youth program portfolio. Building on the last five years of youth innovation programming, you will deliver, execute and lead the tactical delivery of a new era of innovative youth programs investing in key focus areas, including women’s economic empowerment, social entrepreneurship, social impact and climate action.
The Associate Director, Programs will manage designated international project staff teams, oversee knowledge, learning & evaluation, targeted gender equality and gender mainstreaming efforts, provide technical support to programs in the field of youth livelihoods and women’s economic empowerment, drive research and development, coordinate with YCI’s people teams to deliver exceptional results, lead business development initiatives, establish and maintain positive, collaborative and productive relationships with staff, as well as funding and project partners. The Associate Director, Programs is a strategic member of the YCI leadership team, with the goal to increase the creativity, quality, efficiency and the long-term impact of our programs.
Responsibilities will include:
- Project Execution: Provide leadership and management to a defined project portfolio, including the coordination and oversight of international project teams; oversee the coordination of technical partners and sub-contractors; effectively coordinate with people, operations, finance, project and communications teams to deliver exceptional results; design, monitor, and execute project implementation plans, annual work plans and donor reporting; ensure funder and internal compliance and financial management as it relates to program performance.
- Technical Execution: Drive exceptional results through the technical execution of designated programs; oversee iterative learning, monitoring and evaluation through to policy and practice development and innovation; provide technical assistance and training across teams; lead continuous research, planning and development; lead gender equality technical oversight and policy and practice development; lead YCI’s youth livelihoods technical development processes consistently driving and scaling new innovations; advise domestic programs in relation to areas of technical competence.
- Business | Fund Development: Develop and implement a program design and business development plan, including proposal planning and development; ensure innovation is continuously integrated into overall strategy, research and development, business development, partnerships and internal teams; integrate sustainability as a key business driver, by designing new products and services, securing alternative financing, and creating innovative opportunities to expand and monetize YCI’s best products and services.
- Support to Special Projects and Strategic Initiatives: Provide support to special projects and strategic initiatives in coordination with the Executive Director; perform other duties as requested by the Executive Director.
Skills and experience:
You have 8+ years of progressively responsible management and leadership experience; you are known as an entrepreneurial leader; you have been fortunate to gain significant global experience and understand what is takes to be a successful partner in sub-Saharan Africa; you are passionate about investing in women and youth livelihoods with a track record in youth livelihoods + innovation; you can demonstrate how you have built effective teams, leadership capacity and partnerships; you exemplify a strategic mindset and are skilled at designing and implementing effective plans to achieve ambitious goals; you understand the importance of culture and how it contributes to success or failure; you celebrate and integrate learnings from both failure and success; you are an effective communicator with bilingual capacity; you are a permanent resident or a Citizen of Canada.
