Nicole created Sustainable Fashion Toronto – a movement dedicated to connecting the community with sustainable retailers in Toronto, particularly small businesses selling used or vintage clothing. The project aims to share info about local retailers, educate on the negative impacts of the fast fashion industry, and encourage community members to create a pledge to include more sustainably sourced clothing in their wardrobes.
Nicole is from the City of Toronto. She completed her undergraduate degree in environmental science, where she learned about the ecological, economic and social impacts of climate change. The urgency of the climate crisis drew her to take action and she hopes to inspire her community to minimize their participation in fast fashion through YCI’s Youth Climate Leadership Program.
