Mandy

Mandy and her team created Invasive Plants Be Gone to raise awareness about invasive plants in the diverse community of York University Heights. As invasive plants became more widespread in the neighborhood, Mandy saw an opportunity to teach community members about the actions they can take to limit their spread. The team led hikes during the summer to show the impact of invasive plants and introduced participants to online tools to support ongoing efforts to take action.

Mandy is a Physical Geography graduate student at York University. She currently resides in Toronto’s North York region and enjoys hiking in local parks. Her passion for climate action stems from her knowledge in Environmental Science and observing the negative impacts of climate change. Through YCI’s Youth Climate Leadership Program, Mandy aims to tackle the spread of invasive plants in her neighborhood by raising awareness and encouraging community members to participate in citizen science.
