What are you doing this Winter Break?
Youth Challenge International is expanding its youth development programming to Santa Maria de Dota, Costa Rica. This three-week project focuses on the social and economic development of the community and offers motivated volunteer between 18-30 years old the opportunity to work with youth on a "grassroots" community development program!

Key Project Activities May Include:
• Promote environmental education by organizing workshops on recycling and waste management with youth, adults and children
• Facilitate youth involvement in program activities, with a particular emphasis on arts, sports and other activities to promote leadership and improve self-esteem
• Conduct English and Computer training for both youth and adult community members

Ghana Projects: Winter, 2012

YCI is offering THREE project locations in Ghana this Winter. We have an 8-week project and two 4-week projects leaving at the end of January and the end of February.Whether you are interested in active citizenship, good governance, environmental awareness or health education, there is a project to match your skill set in Ghana!

YCI launches the Youth Discovery Program!
Youth Challenge International is excited to announce the launch of a new short term program in Costa Rica this February 2012!

The Youth Discovery program is a short-term environmental focused program in Costa Rica for individuals aged 18-30. This program offers volunteers the opportunity to gain experience working on environmental initiatives and community based infrastructure projects. Projects vary from one to four weeks in length with year-round departure dates.

Working directly with local partners, Youth Discovery volunteers implement projects focused on eco-tourism, conservation, environmental initiatives and community based infrastructure projects as part of short-term team placements.

What's your issue? What are you going to do about it?
To celebrate International Development Week 2012, YCI is excited to announce a brand new contest to engage youth in international development issues. Five $500 grants will be available to support small global action projects in communities across Canada. This initiative is open to Canadian youth, ages 18-30, who want to make a positive difference in their communities. The funds will provide the opportunity for youth to take action on the global issues they care about and turn their ideas into a reality. It's money to make a difference.

The contest will officially launch this October, so stay tuned. All contest guidelines and details will be posted first on the YCI Facebook Fan Page - www.facebook.com/yci.org.
Youth Innovator Projects 2011-2012
Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting six Youth Innovators for a variety of individual and small-team partner capacity building projects in Tanzania and Ghana during 2011- 2012.

Gain experience working directly with YCI staff and partners to implement CIDA programming objectives and improve your project management and implementation skills while working in an international context.

This year, YCI is looking for individuals ages 21 and older with education and/or minimum 1 year professional work experience in the following sectors:

• Human Resources
• Financial Management
• Proposal Writing
• Graphic Design
• Website Design and IT Experience
• Small Enterprise Development
• Gender

Tanzania Project Locations: Fall, 2011


Morogoro, Zanzibar and Arusha! YCI is offering THREE project locations in Tanzania this fall. Our Morogoro project will focus on environmental education and waste management. Our Zanzibar project will focus on HIV/AIDS education outreach and livelihood skills building and finally, our Arusha project will focus on providing holistic education for out-of-school youth!

Whether you are interested in HIV/AIDS education outreach, computer skills training, education or environmental issues, we have a project for you!

What is the Youth Innovator program?
The Youth Innovators program offers short-term specialized projects that focus on a specific programming objective in Tanzania or Ghana. This program is an opportunity for volunteers with an academic or work background related to one of YCI’s sectors, as well as previous overseas experience, to participate in a short-term specialized team project.

YCI Launches Environmental Project in Tanzania
World Environment Day is coming up quickly this Sunday!

In honour of World Environment Day, Youth Challenge International (YCI) is launching it's first focused youth ambassador project on environmental issues in Tanzania!

YCI has added an 8-week project to our Program Calendar starting in September to work in collaboration with our partner organization in Morogoro, the Faraja Trust Fund. Work in collaboration with Faraja to contribute to their environmental and agricultural initiatives! Promote environmental education including recycling and waste management; design, develop and deliver a small-scale environmental campaign; and, provide entrepreneurship training for women living with HIV and AIDS through small-animal raising!

New Country Pilot Project: Uganda, September - November, 2010
YCI is launching an exciting new pilot project with the Uganda Youth Network (UYONET), “Building the advocacy capacity for Youth Participation in Governance.” UYONET is a youth development agency based in Kampla, which would like to convert part of its existing offi ce into a resource centre to attract and educate local youth about governance, human rights, leadership and youth-related political issues. The Timeraiser is a charity art auction where, rather than money, participants bid a number of hours they can afford to an organization (or organizations) of their choice. Bill C-293, also known as the "better aid bill," was passed in parliament today. The Bill makes ending poverty the exclusive goal of Canadian foreign aid.Canada’s foreign aid must now focus on poverty reduction, take into account the priorities of the people living in poverty and be consistent with Canada’s international human rights obligations.
