Tanzania: August to October 2012Sexual Reproductive Health Youth Ambassador Project

| Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting a team of Canadian volunteers for partner capacity building projects in Tanzania. This exciting Youth Ambassador opportunity will include a pre-project distance-learning program, followed by an intensive five-week placement in Tanzania from August 28 to October 2. |
While in country, you will work with YCI’s field staff and local partner organizations to further the reach and relevance of their programming. Your background or interest in health education, sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and/or youth development combined with strong intercultural communication skills will help build the capacity of our partner organizations – local branches of UMATI - and the local people and organizations they work with.
Key Responsibilities: Following orientation in Dar es Salaam with YCI staff and UMATI Headquarters staff, Youth Ambassadors will travel to two project sites where they will:
Participate in a 2-4-day UMATI Peer Educator training on a locally determined topic relevant to Tanzanian rural youthWork with trained peer educators to design education activities in their communitiesDocument and promote activities using local promotional methods, as well as social mediaComplete final report to inform future groups and partner staffDebrief with UMATI Staff in Dar es Salaam Skills and Experience: Demonstrated experience/knowledge of sexual reproductive health in a development settingExperience facilitating trainings and workshopsExperience working with youth development/youth health issuesStrong planning and organization skillsDemonstrated report writing skills and knowledge of monitoring and evaluationExperience working with out-of-school youthPrior cross-cultural experience and strong inter-cultural communication skillsAppropriate post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Fundraising Goal: YCI volunteers are required to fundraise and/or contribute a minimum of $1,900 for these projects to contribute towards YCI’s global youth development programs.
