Join Us this Fall in Mozambique for a Pilot Project!
Mozambique Pilot Project (4 Person Team)

Position: Youth Leadership Team – New Country Pilot
Location: Mozambique
Start Date: November 5- December 17, 2012
Duration:  6 weeks
Deadline to Apply: September 12th, 2012

Background:
Mozambique, one of the poorest countries in the world at independence, has emerged from decades of war to become one of Africa’s best-performing economies. Despite this economic growth and improvements to the higher education system, youth unemployment remains very high and job opportunities remain elusive.  Youth represent an enormous pool of talent, drive and determination in Mozambique. YCI wants to create a youth development program that harnesses the immense capabilities of the youth to create sustainable livelihoods. We are seeking a team of exceptional individuals who can help us pilot our expansion projects in Mozambique by using limited resources to create meaningful results.

YCI’s programs are designed to meet the needs of youth affected by poverty through four integrated sectors: livelihoods, health, leadership and the environment (www.yci.org). The Mozambique pilot team will help scale YCI’s programming in East Africa, as we move forward in our expansion plans. This is the perfect opportunity for inspired and dedicated individuals who are interested in gaining skills and experience with new country expansion and setting up operations to launch a grassroots pilot program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pilot the initial implementation of a field based Youth Development Project with a focus on peer to peer youth development (likely with a focus on youth livelihoods)
  • Develop monitoring and evaluating tools for YCI to evaluate pilot youth projects in the context of the area you will be working in and that are transferable to other countries of possible expansion
  • Work with partners to conduct youth outreach events on issues effecting local youth
  • Research and develop programs on one or more of the following: youth entrepreneurs, business planning, microfinance and employability skills
  • Upon return from the field portion of this placement, complete a presentation highlighting the successes and challenges of the project and future recommendations to YCI staff
