Youth Discovery project in Costa Rica: December 2012 to January 2013Position: Youth Discovery Ambassador
Location: Costa Rica
Start Date: December 26 - January 9, 2013
Duration: 2 weeks
| Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting a team of eight Youth Discovery volunteers between the ages of 18 and 30 with diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds for a two-week focused environmental conservation project in Falconiana from December 26th, 2012 to January 9th, 2013. |
Key Activities May Include:- Strengthen environmental education by organizing workshops on recycling and waste management with youth, adults and children in the surrounding communities
- Support and participate in a greenhouse project, which includes organic farming and coordinating farmer's markets
- Help students develop ecological literacy by implementing local school activities to achieve Blue Flag certification (a National Award that honour communities with environmental friendly activities, and recycling and waste management programs)
- Deliver english lesson to community members
Recommended Skills and Experience:- Experience working in a team with demonstrated leadership skills
- Relevant degree in Environmental Science, Conservation, Ecology or the Humanities
- Previous working or living experience in a cross-cultural setting or in a developing country is an asset
- Ability to communicate in Spanish and/or willingness to learn before and/or during project
Fundraising Goal:
YCI’s volunteer participants are required to fundraise and/or contribute a minimum of $1,800 to contribute to YCI’s global youth development programs worldwide.

What's Not Covered by YCI:- Airfare and personal expenses
- Travel insurance
- Volunteers will be expected obtain the required vaccinations and take anti-malarials at their own expense
