Youth Ambassadors Needed in Tanzania

Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting a team of nine Youth Ambassadors between the ages of 18 and 35 with diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds for an eight-week focused youth development project in Tanzania from October 17 to December 12th, 2012.


This exciting opportunity will include a pre-project distance-learning program, followed by an intensive eight-week placement in Tanzania. While in Tanzania, you will work with one of YCI’s partner organizations— ZANGOC in Zanzibar, Faraja Trust Fund in Morogoro, Umoja Center in Arusha —to further the reach and relevance of their youth development program.

Key Project Activities May Include:
• Work with partners to conduct professional skills training (including communication, resume and career development, computer skills, Internet) for out-of-school youth including youth with disabilities, youth living with HIV and recovering substance abusers
• Work with partners to organize health outreach events including SRH, HIV/AIDS, environmental health and substance abuse to urban and rural areas
• Join with partners to commemorate Global Handwashing Day (October 15), and International Men’s Day/Universal Children’s Day on November 19/20, 2012
• Research and develop programs on one or more of the following: youth entrepreneurs, business planning, microfinance and “how to start your own business”
• Engage youth in community initiatives, opportunities and activities to mobilize and promote youth leadership in community health and environmental education
• Strengthen the capacity of YCI’s partners on various areas including; human resources management, IT, financial management, proposal writing, monitoring and evaluation, and database development

Recommended Skills and Experience:
• Experience Teaching English as a foreign language
• Experience teaching computer skills such as Word, Excel, Power point and Internet
• Familiarity with youth development programming and social networking
• Training in public health; experience leading health discussions; good knowledge of HIV/AIDS and other STIs
• Experience implementing programs in gender awareness, environmental education
• Experience with edutainment, theatre and other community arts
• Training in business or NGO management including human resources, accounting and financial management
• Proven effectiveness in cross-cultural settings
• Prior overseas experience an asset

Fundraising Goal:
YCI’s volunteer participants are required to fundraise and/or contribute a minimum of $3,600 towards YCI’s global youth development programs worldwide.

• Comprehensive medical and evacuation insurance

What's Not Covered by YCI:
• Airfare and personal expenses

• Travel/medical insurance

• Volunteers will be expected obtain the required vaccinations and take anti-malarials at their own expense
