Youth Ambassadors Needed in Uganda (U10-8A)
Sectors: Leadership Development

YCI is launching an exciting new pilot project with the Uganda Youth Network (UYONET), “Building the advocacy capacity for Youth Participation in Governance.” UYONET is a youth development agency based in Kampala, which would like to convert part of its existing office into a resource centre to attract and educate local youth about governance, human rights, leadership and youth-related political issues. YCI volunteers, in conjunction with UYONET partners and staff, will research and develop a library of resources relevant to youth in Uganda. Part of the project is the development and organization of the resource centre itself, while an equally important component is designing a plan to mobilize and attract young people to the centre.

The eight-week project will include using the UYONET network to access youth and determine issues of relevance to them; locate resources available to young people related to governance, human rights and leadership in Uganda; conduct outreach to encourage centre users; and design follow-up activities using UYONET networks for young people to access outside of the centre itself.

PILOT OBJECTIVES
1. Increased number of young people accessing the UYONET resource centre.
2. Improved visibility amongst youth of UYONET, the members of their secretariat and their associated programs.
3. New avenues for fundraising additional resources for the centre, with a focus on IT support.
4. Improved library of youth-friendly reference materials focused on governance, leadership and human rights issues, both external and internally developed if appropriate.
5. Develop plan to mobilize youth to access the centre and sensitize young people about local governance issues.
6. Develop plan to recruit and train young people who access the centre to reach out to other youth using peer to peer methodologies.
7. Training center for youth in ICT.
