May 26, 2009 - Youth As A Top Priority For CIDA
The Minister of International Cooperation, Beverley Oda, announced last week that CIDA will strengthen its focus on securing the future of youth in developing countries.

Referencing a "youth tsunami" the minister went on to say that young people now make up more then 60% of the population in many of the countries CIDA works in.

In addressing the needs of this growing demographic, the Canadian government will increase its focus on health and preventable disease, basic education and giving young people the chance to grow and prosper by developing skills to engage meaningfully in their communities. This announcement is well aligned with YCI's youth development programming which focuses on: Health, Education, Leadership Development, Economic Development and the Environment.
