YOUTH CHALLENGE INTERNATIONAL
NEWS - FULL STORY
October 24, 2008 - In Focus - Photography for Empowerment
The ‘In Focus’ projects are based on the idea of teaching photography to marginalized populations as a tool for empowerment and community development.  Founded in 2007, the 'In Focus' team has since undertaken four successful projects in Zanzibar, Tanzania and Montreal, Canada.

The 'In Focus' projects began as a part of Youth Challenge International's Global Youth Leadership programming in Tanzania, and since then it has been expanded to involve women in Montreal.  This is a great example of YCI returned volunteers staying engaged with the issues and taking skills and ideas gained in their overseas placement and applying them to their local communities.

‘Women in Focus Montreal’ is the latest project from the ‘In Focus’ team.  Over the summer of 2008, a group of refugee and immigrant women in Montreal were given the opportunity to learn film and digital photography as a way to share their experiences and connect with other women in their new community.
