About Innovate MY Future

What are the eligibility criteria?

  • You are between the ages of 16-24
  • You are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • You live in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area

Do I get paid as part of this program?

This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity engaging young people in their communities and climate action.


To support your participation, Youth Challenge International will provide travel stipends to help cover program related travel costs. Participants will also be able to apply for grant funding to help run their climate action projects (up to $2,000 per project team).


Each participant will have access to a tablet to support the documentation and promotion of their projects. Upon satisfactory completion of the Innovate MY Future program requirements, participants are able to keep their tablets.

Does this program count towards high school volunteer hours?

Yes, participation in this program is eligible towards your high school volunteer hours.

What is the time commitment?

The Fall/Winter session runs from September 2019 – February 2020. Participants are required to commit to approximately 5 hours per week over 6 months which includes:
  • Attending 2 full-day Climate Leadership Training Labs in downtown Toronto
    • Labs operate in a series of blocks. You must indicate in your application which of the lab blocks you can attend
    • They are either: [Sep 13 and Sep 27] OR [Sep 14 and Sep 28]
  • Collaborating with your local team to run a community consultation (scheduled by you and your team)
  • Running your own climate action project over at least 3 months (scheduled by you and your team members)

Do I need to pay to take part in the program?

No. There are no fees associated with taking part in the program.

When will I hear back about my application?

Applications for the Fall/Winter Climate Action Catalysts will close on Aug 25, 2019 at 11:59 EST.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received. Submit early and don’t miss the chance to participate in this unique experience!
